Competition Info

Bardic Competition

The Bardic arts are comprised of music (both instrumental and vocal) acting, poetry, juggling, acrobatics, storytelling and various other forms of the performing arts. For this Tides Turning, our Bardic competition will have the theme of Precipitation, and will be open to any type of period performance. Privately or publicly judged performances are permitted. Written documentation is not required, but some adherence to period styles and forms is appreciated.

Tides Turning will also be hosting a non-competitive (if performers can ever claim to be non-competitive) game of Commedia Freeze. Commedia Dell’Arte was a medieval form of professional but mostly improvisational theatre, in which troupes of performers would take on stock character roles, and through dance, acrobatics, and acting, entertain audiences. Our Commedia Freeze will place certain stock Commedia characters (Columbina, the smart and saucy servant girl, Arlecchino, the nimble and tricky manservant, and Pantalone, the miserly and lecherous old man) with a modern improvisational game of Freeze, in which the actors of those characters will be swapped out swiftly mid-scene. More information on this game will be given at the time of the event itself, but it will be open to (and hopefully enjoyed by) all.

A&S Competition

A&S will be by populace vote. You can enter anything in any stage (finished, working on, etc) as long as you are using period materials. So bring your finished or unfinished item and join the fun!

Largesse Derby

A new spin on a fun favourite! Help build the largesse coffers by participating in the Tides Turning Largesse Trio. 3 items either matching or of the same theme. Winner determined by populace vote. Winner will receive 3 different items of their choice from the entries.
